Open the device – Be careful not to pull on the battery and speaker wires when pulling the top and bottom enclosures apart.

Disconnect the battery plug from the circuit board

Lift the EMI shielding and pull out the battery – Follow your company policy for disposing of Lithium Polymer Batteries.

Place new battery inside the enclosure and put the EMI shielding on top – Place battery wire facing Micro B cutout and the membrane switch connector. Use the three side tabs to hold the EMI shielding in place. Writing on EMI shielding must be facing up.
5.
Attach battery plug to circuit board connector (labeled BAT) – Route wires through middle slot between battery connector and Micro B on the circuit board. Ensure connector locks into the slot.
6.
Close the device – Route the battery and speaker wires so the device closes properly and no wires get pinched. Confirm that there are no gaps between the enclosures.
Replacing Slide Locks
Determine version of slide locks by checking whether the slide locks can be moved past the “open” position – Note: ALL devices with Serial Number greater than 1708-00101 have Rev 3+ slide locks.
Rev 3+ slide locks can be moved past the open position
Rev 1-2 slide locks cannot be moved past the open position
Replacing Rev 3+ slide locks:
1.
Remove broken slide lock from the enclosure
2.
Insert new slide lock into the enclosure
Replacing Rev 1-2 slide locks:
1.
Open the device – Be careful not to pull on the battery and speaker wires when pulling the top and bottom enclosures apart.

Detach the speaker from the enclosure
3.
Cut off the two tabs on each of the slide locks
4.
Remove the slide locks from the enclosure
5.
Insert new slide locks into the enclosure – Make sure tabs are facing towards the center of enclosure
6.
Attach the speaker to the enclosure –There is a cutout on the enclosure for the speaker. Pay attention to the alignment.
7.
Close the device – Route the battery and speaker wires so the device closes properly and no wires get pinched. Confirm that there are no gaps between the enclosures.
Replacing SD Card
*Use only replacement SD cards shipped from ABM. These have been formatted to be used specifically with the X8 devices.

Pull out the current SD card from the circuit board
3.
Insert the new SD card in the slot on the circuit board
4.
Close the device – Route the battery and speaker wires so the device closes properly and no wires get pinched. Confirm that there are no gaps between the enclosures.
